Rowing Program

Melbourne Girls' College Rowing Club

The MGC Rowing Club was established in 1996 with only one crew racing at the Head of School Girls’ regatta in Geelong. Since then, the club has grown to 58 members with 15 crews representing the college at the HOSG regatta in 2008.

Girls may enter the rowing program during Term 3 in preparation for the racing season. Yr 8’s have the opportunity to trial rowing during their sport classes in term 3 before committing to the actual season in terms 4 and 1.

Training for rowing occurs both before and after school as well as Saturday mornings. Off peak training during term 3 has 2-3 sessions per week, and peak season training in terms 4 and 1 has 5-6 sessions per week.

Situated on the Yarra River, we are fortunate to be able to have a pontoon directly behind the school from which we row. This enables us to maximise the time spent on water without having the issues of transporting the students to and from the landing like most other schools.

If you have any queries about joining the rowing club, please don’t hesitate to contact Jonathon Rundell, the Rowing Co-ordinator.
