Year 7
At Melbourne Girls’ College each year level has a different focus designed to meet the social and educational needs of students at that particular year level.
In Year 7 the emphasis is on the transitions to secondary school with a focus on developing significant relationships with peers and teachers.
The majority of the day is spent in a purpose built learning centre (Lyceum) especially for year 7. It incorporates the latest in learning technologies and facilitates the effective styles of learning and teaching. Many classes are taught with two teachers in the classroom, working together as a team.
Features of the Year 7 Program include:
· A major focus on Mathematics to consolidate the basics and to extend the students’ competencies. This is taken for nine periods a cycle (fortnight).
· Two integrated subjects using an inquiry-based learning strategy
o Social World – with a focus on English, History and ICT, taken for nine periods a cycle.
o Physical World – with a focus on Science, Health and Geography. This is also taken for nine periods a cycle.
· The Arts and Technology
· Sport and Physical Education
There is also an extensive co-curricula program incorporating

· Public speaking and debating
